John Emil Grund Emil Grund, a trained tool maker, combined farming with opal mining in partnership with brothers Max and Wally for many years. Emil went out to Eight Mile with his partner Walter Bartram and his son Harry where they had a couple of army tents. He wrote about his experience of travelling to Coober Pedy in 1946 and life on the fields at that time in an article for Australian Gem and Treasure magazine.
