Stuart Creek was originally claimed as a reward in 1858 by John McDouall Stuart for his exploration of the area in 1858. It was purchased in 1919 by Sidney Kidman. In 1935 it was amalgamated along with the Peake under central management based at Anna Creek. In 1998 Stuarts Creek was sold to Western Mining Corporation.
